CSKT DHRD CASA Swearing In Ceremony

Thursday morning I had the privilege of attending the swearing in of the first three trained volunteers to the CSKT DHRD CASA Program. I was invited by the Program Manager Roxana Colman Herak. It was an honor to watch Judge Pluff swear in volunteers, Nancy Dougherty, Darla Pearson and Jeanette Blythe as the final critical piece to complete the coverage for our area of the local CASA volunteer programs for the children of Lake and Sanders Counties and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Reservation.
CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate. CASA volunteers work with children in abuse and neglect proceedings and they truly advocate for the children. They are truly the one guarantee a real person will actually be able to hug that child who is so lost. Children are the only truly innocent parties we see in the courtroom. More advocates are always need. I encourage anyone who has the time and interest to volunteer with CASA in Lake County, Sanders County, or the CSKT DHRD CASA Program.
If you can’t volunteer as an advocate, the annual CASA of Lake & Sanders Counties Golf Scramble is happening on April 21, 2018 at the Polson Bay Golf Course! They are raffling off a season golf membership. For more information about the Scramble call 883-0185 or contact them by email at Additionally, I was able to attend Sanders County Chili Feed on February 7, 2018 in Plains to help support that portion of the program. Having started the CASA program in Lake County in 2001 with amazing support and then being able to extend into Sanders County for the 20th Judicial District. It was amazingly gratifying to come full circle with the CKST DHRD CASA Program and complete the outreach.
