2001- Present   DISTRICT JUDGE TWENTIETH JUDICIAL                               DISTRICT:

One of two District Judges ~ area of 4,268 square miles ~ population of 40,148 per the 2010 census encompassing LAKE AND SANDERS Counties, and the majority of the CONFEDERATED SALISH AND KOOTENAI RESERVATION (PL 280) ~ In 2016, 2,804 new cases were filed or reopened.  Reelect 3 times for six year terms.  Invited as a guest commentator for Court TV in New York City after Court TV’s broadcast a local high profile civil case on which I sat as judge.  In 2014, presided of one of the five largest punitive damages awards in the United State at the time in a civil jury trial in the US ($240,000,000.00). Former President of the Montana Judges’ Association. 

1995-2000       LAKE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY,                                   POLSON, MT:

Elected as a Republican for two terms.  Responsible for the prosecution of criminal cases, including all felony and any misdemeanors within the county.  Represented Lake County in civil and administrative actions, along with local and state agencies in Lake County. Supervised two deputies and two support staff.  Personally handled the successful prosecution of a death penalty case, local “freeman cases”, and other high profile cases.  Held elected offices in the Montana County Attorney’s Association. 

1993-1995      FRENCH, MERCER, GRAINEY & O'NEILL of                          Counsel, POLSON, MT:

 General practice of criminal defense, family law, real estate, probate and personal injury.

1991-1993     CASCADE COUNTY DEPUTY COUNTY                                     ATTORNEY, GREAT FALLS, MT:

Prosecuted felonies and misdemeanors.  In addition to trial work, handled sanity proceedings, elder abuse, and advised Adult Protective Services Team.

1988-1991     UNITED STATES ARMY, FORT LEWIS, WA. 

Captain ~ Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Trial Counsel for all levels of courts-martial and disciplinary actions including administrative chapters for four different commands composed of approximately 3000 soldiers. Instructor for all law enforcement agencies on Fort Lewis.  Served during Desert Storm.  Secret Security clearance

1989-1990     SPECIAL ASSISTANT UNITED STATE'S                                     ATTORNEY

Prosecuted civilian misdemeanor and all traffic offenses before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington involving the Fort Lewis community of 78,000.  Arraigned over 5600 cases, handled 772 bench trial, 176 jury trials as the only attorney with 10 staff.

1981 U of Montana Homecoming Queen, National Defense Service Medal-Desert Storm, Airborne/Parachute Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Montana CASA Judge of the Year.
